Chrissy Park

The other stop of the day was at “Chrissy Park” (named after me?)  Of course not, but I can dream can't I?!  This beautiful park surrounds the Palace of Fine Arts.  Designed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition by Bernard Maybeck, the site reflects his belief that architecture should become a frame highlighting the lush landscape that surrounds the structure with the landscape softening its lines.

Maybeck desired to build a reflection of the beauty and sadness of looking at a Roman ruin.  In my opinion he achieved it, as I gaze at this beautiful building.  Experiencing this location includes yet another site on my “must visit” list for San Francisco.  Indeed, several visits may be in order to experience the designer’s attention to what the nuances of light and weather upon this structure can evoke in the emotions of the observer.  The interpretation of his thoughtful creation inspires humility and a desire to be broader in my own creative endeavors.

The swans, ducks and flowers add to the ambiance of an Eden created within the city.  I can only imagine the pleasure of living along the street that fronts this park.  Jim's daughter above (Kris) agrees with me.

We also drove over to the Golden Gate Bridge to see it hidden in the fog even as the sun was shining on the city.  This bridge in all of its splendor truly represents San Francisco and the gateway to Central California.
