Morro Bay Car Show

Every year on the first weekend in May, Morro Bay hosts a HUGE car show that takes over the main street running from the top of the town all the way down to the waterfront with side streets thrown in for good measure.  Again, it was easy to take a hundred photos and have the dilemma of choosing just a few to show you.
We walked the entire show and found several of our favorites from years gone by-some from our childhood and others from decades well before.  To me one of the most amazing things about the show are the paint jobs and seeing Thunderbirds my Mom drove or antique Fords that have always fascinated me (maybe I owned one in another life.)  To Jim, it is the walk down memory lane of all the cars he or his family drove and the stories he can tell about each of them.  From the Oldsmobile his grandfather owned to travel around to Indiana farms while making veterinary visits to models of Lincoln Continentals Jim possessed or a Buick similar to one his parents took to Japan-they all inspire admiration.  We have a friend who remodeled a truck and we saw several at the show that reminded us of Richard's little red truck.  He should have been here with us.
Throw in the carnival feel of hotdogs, carmel corn and BBQ smells wafting through the air and you get the picture.  We did go down to the waterfront for one last serving of fish and chips and swung around to see the sea otters floating in the sun.  I have a much better photo of them now as they were closer to the shore.  Across the street, the surfers were having a grand time in waves significantly higher than on the day we arrived.  It was a perfect day to say goodbye to Morro Bay.  Our time spent here has been lovely.  Now we are on the road to Paso Robles this morning over the hills (significant ones) along Route 46.
Cheerio and we'll see you there!
